FAQ

Below you will find answers to commonly asked questions.  Any information not included below can be found at in one of our Menu tabs above.

How long have the Illinois Vipers been a fastpitch travel ball organization?

The Illinois Vipers began in 2013 with one 14u team coached by Rich Morford. Sami Baugh and Mackensey Carter came on board in 2014 and collaborated with Rich to expand one team into an organization. The foundation for this organization is in softball fundamentals, academic achievement, teaching intangible life skills, and preparing student athletes for the highest levels of athletic competition.

What tournaments do the Illinois Vipers participate in?

The Illinois Vipers strive to play at the most competitive "A" level tournaments. We compete in both top college showcase tournaments as well as ASA and PGF Championship play.

Depending on the team, there will be travel out of area and out of state in order to play the best of the best. In the past, we have sent teams to the D9 Fall Sun Classic Tournament in Kissimmee, FL, the St. Louis Softball Showcase, RockFastpitch Challenge Cup, Indiana PGF Firecracker Showcase, PGF Top 100, Compuware, and Team NJ Summer Classic.

Where do the Illinois Vipers practice?

The Illinois Vipers are located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago in Tinley Park. Our indoor facility is located at 17650 Duvan Dr, Tinley Park, IL. We practice in fields in and around the Tinley Park area.

How much does it cost to play for the Illinois Vipers?

The Illinois Vipers fees for the 2018-2019 season is 2,500 dollars for the entire yearl. This cost includes:

  • The cost of entry into 12-14 tournaments (both showcase & qualifiers)
  • Personalized recruitment consultation and a full NCSA Team Edition profile (market value of 800 dollars)
  • 3 sets of uniforms & equipment (jersey, pants, socks, belt, practice t-shirts, helmet, equipment bag, hoodie)
  • All paid coaches with top level experience at college and beyond
  • Practice at indoor facility, I-80 Athletics, in Tinley Park

Any other travel, hotel, or flight expense would be at an additional cost to each family.

Transparency is important to us so a budget with full breakdown of expenses can be presented to any family upon request so that you know what your money is going toward.

The Illinois Vipers do not participate in any mandatory organization-wide fundraising events at this time, but this is subject to change depending on the budgeting needs of the team. There may be opportunities for optional fundraisers to lower fees out of the families pockets, but if any fundraiser is required, families will be notified in advance. Any amount raised through these efforts would be split evenly among the team fees for each participant.

How much playing time does each player get on the Illinois Vipers?

The Illinois Vipers organization does not guarantee playing time. We believe that a spot on the field is earned through hard work, effort, and success at practice and in games. Each player will have the opportunity to earn their spot but there is always going to be competition between teammates for that playing time so that we are always striving to be better.

What is the time commitment for the Illinois Vipers?

The Illinois Vipers practice one to two times a week, play 5-6 tournaments in the fall and winter, and play every weekend of the summer.

The Illinois Vipers emphasize the values of commitment and discipline, which means we take attendance at team practices seriously.  While we want all players to be well-rounded, which means being involved in other activities, sports, and school, we still expect consistent attendance at all Illinois Vipers practices and games.

We also expect that each player have a private hitting, pitching, and/or catching instructor that she works with to improve her skills outside of team practices.
